Volunteers play a vital part in Hi Kent. The Visiting Scheme and Hearing Aid Maintenance Clinics are co-ordinated and organised by a salaried member of staff but rely solely on trained volunteers to deliver these key person-to-person practical support services.

Hearing impairment affects almost every family; one person in seven has some degree of hearing loss. As we get older we are all more likely to become hard-of-hearing and to use a hearing aid. Many elderly or disabled people have difficulty cleaning or re-tubing hearing aids and changing the small batteries.

Caring trained volunteers provide a free hearing aid maintenance service to the elderly through clinics held in a variety of locations; Medical Centres, Hospitals, Rest Homes, etc. or by means of home visits. Volunteers are trained to clean, re-tube and check that hearing aids are working properly. They also provide a listening ear for other hearing loss related problems.

We are always keen to hear from people from all walks of life who are enquiring about the posibility of becoming a Hi Kent Volunteer.

If you are able to give a minimum of 2 or 3 hours regularly each month, have a commitment to the well-being of the elderly and have the confidence to meet new people, we would welcome your enquiry. Full training and follow-up support is given. Out-of-pocket travel expenses will be paid. Come and join a great team!
