"This class is a life saver to those of us with a hearing problem and to be able to communicate within class and with others. I do not feel so isolated from the hearing world we live in."

Schedule

We offer our lipreading classes online, via Zoom.

Classes are held on various days, during the day and in the evening.

Our classes run weekly for 25 weeks during the academic year, with breaks for half terms and holidays.

We do ask that, once you have joined a class, you commit to it for at least one year. This is to ensure that you have time to learn this new skill effectively enough to be able to use it. After that time, you are very welcome to continue in the class for a further year if you would like to. At the end of two years, we may ask you to step aside so that people on the waiting list can take up a place.

If you are likely to be absent from your class for more than two weeks, please let your tutor know. If we do not know that you wish to continue in the class, your place will be given to someone on the waiting list.

Our Tutors

Our tutors are all fully qualified to teach lipreading to adults. Some have a hearing loss themselves, so really understand what it is like to struggle to hear. They want to make communication enjoyable again, so lessons often include quizzes and games.

The course does not lead to a qualification as such, but we hope that each student gains confidence in the knowledge that communication will be easier in the future.

We look forward to welcoming you to your class.

"Only after being involved in the lipreading class, have I realised that my struggles are quite normal and quite common amongst those with hearing loss. The class helped me understand where I was struggling, and what I could do to adapt better in a hearing world."
